CAPS SOAL Benefit: A Day of Inspiration, a Night of Music

On Monday, September 21st we had a special visitor to CAPS Greater Asbury Park’s High School campus: The E Street Band’s own Jake Clemons; who was generous enough to tour the school, speak privately with scholars, and act as Principal for a day! Jake toured the school with Dr. Wright-White and spoke with CAPS scholars, did morning announcements, and signed autographs.

In the evening, Jake gave a private performance at Kula Farm benefitting Summer Of A Lifetime: The Summer Of A Lifetime program sends low-income, predominantly Black and Latino high school students from Asbury Park, Neptune, Paterson and Plainfield to Europe and Japan for no cost while on their summer break. The evening also featured Stringbean & the Boardwalk Social Club; A local legendary traditional blues band – featuring Stringbean (father of our very own Ms. Hancock!) and Richard Blackwell, a childhood friend of Bruce Springsteen from Freehold – who played the congas and percussion on tracks like “The E Street Shuffle” and “New York City Serenade.”
