Kula Farms Spring Cleanup: A Day of Fun and Service to the Community
April 8, 2025 — Scholars from the College Achieve Greater Asbury Park Student Council spent two days last week at Kula Urban Farms helping with spring cleanup and getting planting beds ready for spring vegetables.
One of the tenants of College Achieve is service to the community; and CAPS has fostered a relationship with Kula Farms to provide our scholars with educational opportunities — as well as a way to give back in their own community by volunteering throughout the year with cleanup.
This year, students cleared out old brush to make way for new annuals, turned compost heaps, and weeded rows of raised vegetable beds.
Primarily, Kula Farms is able to achieve its goals by managing a hydroponic greenhouse. According to its website: Fresh Greens are the “source of revenue that sustains the whole operation.” The produce is then sold to the public — as well as to local restaurants.
In addition to managing the hydroponic greenhouse, Kula Urban Farms also transforms vacant lots around Asbury Park into community gardens that provide fresh vegetables free of charge to people in need.
To support Kula Farms, simply go to their website at: https://interfaithneighbors.org/kula-urban-farm/ where you can order fresh greens, Kale, microgreens (sprouts), herbal teas and more. Be sure to place orders by Wednesday for pickup or delivery on Thursday or Friday.
